John is a Chartered Professional Accountant and partner at SKK. Before studying to become a CPA, John owned and operated a trucking company for 12 years, was a contractor in the construction industry and was involved in a truck parts and repair business as managing partner. His business experience and being a resident in the community for almost all of his life means that he truly understands what it takes to start and grow a business in the area we live.

Involved in the community, is an active charter member of the Rotary Club of Dawson Creek Sunrise serving as President in the 2004 – 2005 Rotary year. In 2011, John was appointed to the Board of Directors for Northern Lights College, was elected as vice-chair in 2012 and then elected as chair in June, 2015. He was also appointed to the Board of Directors for Lake View Credit Union in 2015 and has now been elected to that board. In addition to these John coached minor hockey for several years and has been involved in a variety of other organizations in the Peace River region.

Sometimes for fun, John likes to golf and definitely likes to travel with his wife Shari. Their marriage has spanned more than 35 years, producing 5 children and a continually growing number of grandchildren.

In 2014, Michael Kurjata returned to the Peace Region after a 32 year absence and in 2018 became a partner. He earned his Certified General Accountants designation in 1991 and with the amalgamation of the accounting body, now holds the designation of CPA, CGA. After 25 years in industry, he decided that he needed a change and thought that entering private practice would provide the challenge that he needed. Since his return, he has been expanding his knowledge with dealing with the diverse client base that SKK Chartered Professional Accountants has coupled with formal education in areas that are specific to private practice. He surrounds himself with a solid, knowledgeable team that makes SKK Chartered Professional Accountants a good place to be.

Katie Hustak has been with our team since January 2006 when she joined as an accounting technician.
